Allow 1-2 hours after a meal before practicing

Arrive early.  Usually 10 minutes early is more than enough time to check in and get yourself set up.

Classes are done on a mat barefoot

No mat?  No problem.  We have plenty of mats at the studio you are more than welcome to borrow

Listen to your body.  Yoga is not about pushing beyond your limits.  Take rests when needed.

Wear comfortable clothing that's easy to move in.  Either loose, or tightly fitted stretchy clothing.

Avoid wearing perfume or anything with a heavy scent to class

Bring water (we also have a water cooler and water bottles available for purchase.

Injured?  Please make sure to let your teacher know ahead of time so they may give you modifications for the poses being practiced.

STRESS RELIEF: Yoga helps to reduce the physical effects of stress on the body.  By reducing stress and encouraging relaxation, yoga helps to lower blood pressure and heart rate, improves digestion and boosts the immune system as well as eases symptoms of conditions such as anxiety, depression, fatigue, asthma and insomnia.

STRENGTHENS AND TONES THE WHOLE BODY:  Yoga poses use every muscle in the body, helping to increase strength literally from head to toe. 

INCREASES FLEXIBILITY AND RANGE OF MOTION:  Yoga helps to improve flexibility and mobility, increasing range of movement and reducing aches and pains. Many people can’t touch their toes during their first yoga class.  Over time, and with consistent practice, flexibility gradually increases.

HELPS PREVENT ACHES, PAINS & INJURIES:  By strengthening the whole body and increasing the ability to move with ease, we naturally train the body to operate as it was designed.  Proper alignment in the poses help to prevent injury by strengthening the muscles that surround the joints.

FASTER RECOVERY FROM WORKOUTS:  Yoga stretches and lengthens muscles, which is exactly what you want to do after a hard workout. Yoga enhances blood flow and oxygen throughout the whole body which helps to repair and rebuild muscle tissue that was broken down during exercise. The quicker this can happen, the sooner you will build muscle and the sooner you can do another workout without further muscle breakdown.

IMPROVES POSTURE:  Good posture is important for preventing pain in the back, shoulders and neck. In today's modern world, we have a tendency towards slouching forward, putting excess strain on the muscles of the back body and excess contraction on the muscles of the front body.  In a typical class, you'll be reminded many times to lengthen the spine and allow the muscles that support good posture to become stronger as a result.  

HELPS IMPROVE FOCUS:  In all of our yoga classes, you begin by placing your attention on the present moment, the sensations of the body and the wandering thoughts.  As you begin to move the body, you're encouraged to pay attention, on purpose, without judgement, to what's happening in the moment.   Practicing mindfulness during yoga helps to train the mind to practice mindfulness outside of doing yoga. Mindfulness is all about the present, taking in the world around you and not thinking of the past or the future.
